Contemporary Heritage

Exclusive use venue for private celebrations, corporate events, weddings and family gatherings.

Voted one of the top three venues in Europe under 200 bedrooms at The International Hotel Awards.

Carlowrie is a castle like no other in Scotland, that I've seen anyway. The exterior perfectly conjures a fairytale castle whilst the interior is contemporary. Rooms are designed in a modern style and very much suit a modern wedding. With the gardens, driveway and entrance road all being so close to the castle, it makes my style of documentary wedding photography much easier!

Carlowrie-castle-directions

Carlowrie Castle is set in 32 acres of beautiful gardens and can be found just outside Kirkliston, near Edinburgh. Leaving Kirkliston, head along the B9080 before taking a right fork and the castle is just a few mile on your left.

There is ample car parking but it is just along the exit road from the castle. Park at the front to drop your bags and then park in the car park.

*PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF THE CASTLE* You wouldn't believe the amount of unwittingly (I hope) bad parking I have to Photoshop out of couples wedding pictures.

Venue Details

I've shot a number of weddings at Carlowrie now and it's been a tour de seasons interestingly enough! I've also shot 2 weddings in 2 days here and loved it. It's a challenge to deliver different images when you're at the same venue twice in 48 hours but I really enjoyed it. Perhaps a venue that wasn't so beautiful it would've been more difficult but Carlowrie is picture postcard perfect.

At Sarah & Greg's wedding the weather was horrendous in the morning. Poor Sarah was really worried but I explained that in fact the rain would help up. It made the trees greener, the path shiny and the grass lush. With all the gardens being immediately outside the castle it's almost impossible to take bad photographs here. If you know what you're doing obviously!
